What is it like to live in Las Vegas National?
Living by Las Vegas National means a central address with real golf history in your backyard. Bert Stamps designed the course, and it opened in October 1961 as the Stardust Country Club at 1911 East Desert Inn Road. Over the years it was also the Sahara-Nevada Country Club, the Sahara Country Club, and the Las Vegas Hilton Country Club before taking the Las Vegas National name in 1998.
The course has quite a guest list. It hosted the LPGA Championship from 1961 through 1966, then PGA Tour events starting in 1967, with winners like Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Lee Trevino. Tiger Woods got his first PGA Tour win here in 1996. The Rat Pack played it in the 1960s, and it made it into the movie Casino.
Be clear on what you are buying, though. This is an established neighborhood that grew over decades, not one planned community with one gate and one HOA. Floor plans, lot sizes, and condition change from street to street, and only some homes back onto the course. Whether there is an HOA, and what it covers, depends on the subdivision or townhome complex. Older homes also mean a careful inspection matters, especially the roof, sewer line, and electrical panel.
The course is public and run separately from the homes, so there is no membership to buy and you can book a tee time like anyone else.
