What is living on the Red Rock Country Club course really like?
Picture two golf courses with Red Rock Canyon and the Spring Mountains as the backdrop, on the far west side of Summerlin. Sunrise Colony Company bought the land from Howard Hughes, and the first homes and the club at Red Rock Country Club opened late in the 1990s. Now about 1,000 homes fill 738 acres, with guards at the gates day and night.
The two courses play different roles. The Mountain course is private, for members. The Arroyo sells public tee times, which is handy, since you can play it a few times before you decide on a membership. Members also get two clubhouses for dining, the gym and spa, pools, and tennis and pickleball.
The club and the HOA are two different things. Membership is optional, it comes in several levels, and none of it transfers with the house, so plan for it as its own cost.
The community is part of Summerlin South and sits in unincorporated Clark County. Every owner pays two associations, Summerlin South's master association and Red Rock Country Club's own, and a few gated enclaves inside charge a third. Fairway living brings the usual give and take: golfers going by, the odd ball in the yard, and early maintenance crews. If you are also looking at The Ridges nearby, know that it is a separate village with its own gates, HOA, and club.
