What is it like to live in Sun City MacDonald Ranch?

Sun City MacDonald Ranch is the smaller, easier-going of Henderson's two Sun Cities. Del Webb built its 2,513 homes from 1996 to 2001 on the first village of the old MacDonald Ranch land, at the foot of the hills off Horizon Ridge Parkway. It came right after Sun City Summerlin as Del Webb's second 55+ community in the valley.

The center of things is the Desert Willow Clubhouse, a 36,000 square foot building with a fitness center, a dance and aerobics room, a ballroom with a stage, a library, billiards, craft studios, and the Willow restaurant. Outside are a lap pool and spa, bocce, tennis, and walking paths. The Desert Willow Golf Course is a short Billy Casper and Greg Nash course the residents own, with long views over the valley. The homes are simple and manageable: 18 floor plans, mostly one story, from about 1,000 to just over 2,000 square feet, and a section of attached villas. Even the newest are more than 20 years old now, so one house may have a new roof and air conditioning while the one next door still has the originals. Price that into your offer, and ask how golf course costs show up in the dues, since the residents carry the course.

Location is a big plus. The 215 is next door, Green Valley shopping and The District at Green Valley Ranch are about five minutes off, and the airport is about 15. If you want more going on, Sun City Anthem is about ten minutes south and much larger, with three recreation centers. It sits between Serket Golf Club, formerly Rio Secco, and Anthem Country Club, and holes from Revere's two courses run through it.
