What is it like to live in Painted Desert?

Painted Desert is one of the few guard gated golf communities in town with homes at almost every price point, from condos all the way up to custom houses. It sits off Ann Road and Tenaya Way, just west of US 95. The address says Las Vegas, but locals put it in the north valley.

The community grew up around Painted Desert Golf Club, which opened in 1987. Jay Morrish designed it with native desert where other courses planted rough, which was new for Las Vegas back then, and it went on to host the Nevada Open. About 1,600 homes fill roughly 460 acres in ten neighborhoods, so you can choose a condo, a duplex villa, a townhome, a single-family house, or a custom home on the course, all inside the same gate. The look is late 1980s and 1990s Southwest: stucco, tile roofs, and trees that have grown in along the fairways.

Know what you are signing up for. Everyone pays the master association, which runs the gate and the common areas, and most neighborhoods charge a second fee for their own association. Residents say the rules on street parking and landscaping are enforced closely, so read the CC&Rs before you write an offer. Arcis Golf owns the course, not the association; it is open to the public, with an optional players' club if you play often. Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs is about ten minutes north, Mount Charleston is the summer escape, and Los Prados is the other guard gated golf community nearby.
